School Tours
What
is red & green, juicy & delicious and fits in your hand?
|
|
Why, a Massachusetts
grown apple, of course! We at Tougas Family Farm invite your class
to join us this fall for an informative, hands-on educational
experience learning about local agriculture. Tougas Family Farm,
a family owned and managed farm, has been in the forefront of
area growers in using new production techniques, such as dwarf
apple tree plantings, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). During
your trip to the orchard, you and your students will learn more
about our IPM program ("the Bug Talk") from Farmer Mo
(who finally found a use for his Master's Degree in education!),
as well as enjoy a wagon ride and apple picking in the orchard.
Your group will be picking apples from our dwarf apple trees.
These apples are of the highest quality grown in the world, and
the apples are always within easy reach of the children. The children
pick enough to fill a small bag (1/4 peck) and also pick an apple
to eat while in the orchard. Also included is a sticker, and a
coloring book for each child. Apple Trip: $4.00
per
person; minimum charge $75.00.

Fall
in New England is Pumpkin Time, too!
Tougas
Family Farm also offers a similar trip to the pumpkin patch,
where each child picks a sugar pumpkin from Mo's Pumpkin Patch
after taking a wagon ride around the orchards. The sugar pumpkins
are great for painting and decorating, as well as cooking.
Also included is a sticker and coloring book.$4.00 per person, minimum charge $75.00
If
you are having difficulty deciding on which trip to do, we
also have a combination trip that includes the apple picking
trip to the orchard as well as pumpkin picking! $5.50 per person, minimum charge $75.00

Who's
Hungry?
We invite
you and your group to relax after their harvest at the play area
and visit our animal friends at the Barnyard Zoo. Also offered is
the option of a small cup of our pasteurized cider and apple cider
donut for a small additional price. Cider
and Donut: $1.00 each in addition to trip charge.
Orders
must be placed at least 48 hours in advance; have a total
number of people for the order. Since we offer this
option at a discount, any last minute changes are not possible.
Any additional cider and donuts purchased for your group on that
day will be charged at the regular price.
Trips are booked for
Mondays-Fridays, September 8 through October 30, except weekday
holidays, such as Rosh Hashannah (Sept. 30), Columbus Day (Oct.13), and Yom Kippur (Oct. 9). Available hours are between 9:30 am
and 2:00 pm. Trips are scheduled every 15 minutes. Please allow
a minimum of one and a half to two hours for your trip, with large
groups requiring more time. We are located approximately 60 minutes
by bus from downtown Boston, and approximately 20 minutes from downtown
Worcester. We are located 1.5 miles from the Church St. Exit (#24)
off I-290, ten minutes from I-495.
